“I come before you today, in my capacity as chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs Committee, to call upon the governor to suspend from office, the first two district attorneys who terribly mishandled the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.
They did not do their jobs.
No one can argue that the way this has been handled has been a travesty of justice.
They did not do their jobs and that disqualifies them from being able to continue to hold office.
The integrity of public service is at stake here in Coastal Georgia.
The first two district attorneys have lost the confidence of millions of Georgians who will not feel safe or protected under the rule of law if these individuals are allowed to remain in office.
They did not do their jobs.
Today, I call upon Governor Kemp to appoint a special oversight review committee to begin the process of removing the first two district attorneys.
Failure to do so would be like leaving the fox in the hen house.”
